Cost of Living in Canada

Your budget depends on your city and accommodation. Edu Canada gives these indicative monthly estimates in Canadian dollars:

1. Housing: CAD 500-2,000
2. Food and groceries: CAD 240-480
3. Public transport: CAD 80-156
4. Health insurance: CAD 75-120

Allow extra for utilities, internet, phone and personal expenses. Check what your rent and student fees already include.

Plan Your Living Budget

For study permit applications submitted on or after 1 September 2026, a single applicant outside Quebec must show CAD 23,448 for annual living expenses, in addition to tuition and transportation. This is a financial
requirement, not a quote for your actual living costs. Quebec uses separate requirements. Budget for your chosen city and the full course duration.

Scholarships

Scholarships to Study in Canada

Scholarships can help eligible Indian students reduce education costs. Awards may consider academic achievement, leadership or financial need. Check the university’s current criteria and apply early, as some scholarships require a separate application or school nomination.

Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship

The University of Toronto’s undergraduate award covers tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence support for four years. School nomination is required.

UBC International Scholars Program

UBC’s programme supports eligible international students entering their first undergraduate degree who demonstrate outstanding academics, leadership and significant financial need. Applicants must meet the programme’s admission and financial assessment requirements. Compare university entrance awards and programme-specific funding alongside these options. Scholarship availability, coverage and selection vary; an offer of admission does not guarantee funding.
