France offers more than a new place to study. It gives you the chance to explore your subject, experience a different culture and develop the independence that comes with living overseas. If you are planning to study in France after 12th, start by comparing bachelor’s programmes and their entry requirements. For postgraduate study, match your previous qualification with the academic background expected by your chosen course.

A New Culture, an Everyday Experience

01

A New Culture, an Everyday Experience

Studying in France means finding your own routine in a new setting. Discover neighbourhood markets, museums, student societies and places to meet friends. Compare accommodation and transport before choosing a city, so your student experience works for your budget as well as your interests.

Universities and opportunities

Top Universities in France

Choose a French institution that fits your ambitions

When comparing universities in France for international students, look beyond the institution’s name. Your course content, teaching language, qualification awarded and total cost should all influence your shortlist. Business schools and specialist institutions may offer routes that differ from a university degree.

For Indian students considering a master’s in France, check how your bachelor’s qualification meets the programme’s requirements. Review subject prerequisites, academic grades and any portfolio, interview or professional-experience criteria. Use Campus France India to understand the application route relevant to your programme.

Before accepting an offer, confirm the qualification’s recognition, campus location and teaching language directly with the institution. An English-language website does not mean every course is taught in English.

The table below provides a starting point for university research. Rankings describe an institution’s overall performance; they do not establish whether a particular course is the right choice for you.

Different Routes to Your Goal

01

Different Routes to Your Goal

Explore public universities, business schools and specialist institutions before deciding where to apply. Compare the qualification awarded, teaching approach and entry requirements. The right route should match both your academic background and the skills you want to develop, rather than simply the most familiar course title.

English-Taught Study, French Connections

02

English-Taught Study, French Connections

An English-taught programme can make France an option even if you are still learning French. Check the institution’s language requirements before applying. Developing your French alongside your studies can help with daily life, professional conversations and opportunities that require communication with local teams.

Experience Beyond Your Degree

03

Experience Beyond Your Degree

Eligible international students can work within the legal limit of 964 hours per year, according to France-Visas student guidance. Treat earnings as supplementary income, not your main funding plan. Any work after graduation requires the appropriate immigration status; a qualification alone does not provide unrestricted work rights.

Your Questions About Studying in France

FAQs

1. What is the cost of studying in France for Indian students?
plus or minus icon

Your total budget includes tuition, accommodation, food, transport, travel and application-related charges. Under the differentiated public-institution fee framework, Campus France lists 2026–27 annual tuition of €2,902 for bachelor’s study and €3,950 for master’s study for non-EU students to whom these rates apply. Exemptions and institution-specific rules can change what you pay. Private institutions and specialist programmes set their own fees; confirm the exact amount in your offer. Living costs depend on your city, housing and lifestyle. Use the Campus France budgeting guide and current accommodation quotes to build a monthly budget, including deposits and arrival expenses. For student visa applications submitted from 1 August 2026, France-Visas states a minimum financial-resource requirement of €877.50 per month. This is a visa threshold, not a promise that it will cover your actual living

2. Are scholarships available to study in France?
plus or minus icon

Yes. France scholarships for Indian students include government-supported schemes and institution-specific awards. Eligibility, benefits and deadlines vary, so research funding alongside your course applications. The France Excellence Charpak Master Scholarship supports eligible Indian applicants at master’s level. Published benefits include a monthly living allowance and specified fee exemptions. Check the current call for the complete conditions; do not assume it covers all tuition. Undergraduate applicants can also review the Charpak Bachelor Scholarship. For eligible postgraduate applicants, the France Excellence Eiffel programme requires an application submitted through a French institution. Eiffel itself does not pay tuition fees; ask the institution about any separate exemption that applies. Explore the Campus France scholarship directory for Indian students and your institution’s funding page. Plan for costs that remain after any confirmed award.
