Top Universities in the UK

Choose the Right UK University and Course

A well-known university can be a starting point, but your shortlist should reflect your goals. Compare the subjects taught, assessment methods, facilities and academic support available on the specific course you want to study.

For undergraduate entry, check how each university assesses your Class 12 qualification. If you are considering a master’s in the UK, review degree requirements, relevant subject knowledge and any portfolio or work-experience criteria.

Check English-language requirements, application deadlines and the total cost before you apply. Course availability and admission criteria vary between universities and intakes.

Planning beyond graduation? Check the official Graduate visa guidance. The route lasts two years for applications made by 31 December 2026 and 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027; eligible doctoral graduates receive three years. Eligibility conditions apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions About Studying in the UK

1. How much does it cost to study in the UK?
plus or minus icon

Your budget should cover tuition, accommodation, everyday expenses, travel, visa fees and the immigration health surcharge. The British Council’s cost guide gives indicative international tuition ranges of £11,400–£38,000 for undergraduate study and £9,000–£30,000 for postgraduate study. Confirm the fee period and current amount with your university; some courses cost more. The cost of living in the UK for international students depends on location, accommodation and lifestyle. Build a budget for the full course duration using current housing quotes. For visa purposes, the Student visa financial requirements currently specify £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 outside London, for up to nine months, in addition to the required course fees. This is a visa maintenance requirement, not a complete annual living-cost estimate.

2. Are UK scholarships available for Indian students?
plus or minus icon

Yes. UK scholarships for Indian students include university awards and schemes with their own eligibility rules. Start your research alongside your course shortlist, as scholarship deadlines may differ from admission deadlines. GREAT Scholarships for India offer £10,000 towards tuition for eligible one-year taught postgraduate courses at participating universities in the published 2026–27 scheme. Check the university’s page for the relevant intake and deadline. Chevening Scholarships for India support eligible applicants pursuing one-year taught master’s degrees. Review the scheme’s eligibility requirements, selection process and award conditions before applying. Also check your shortlisted universities for merit-based or subject-specific funding. Awards are competitive and may cover only part of your costs, so plan how you will fund the remaining tuition and living expenses.
