Master of Community Dance

Programme Overview

The Master of Community Dance (MCommDance) activates the role of dance in exploring and interrogating local and international societal concerns. Aligned with priorities identified by UNESCO, the curriculum focuses on utilizing movement to address critical issues such as sustainability, cultural diversity, equity, and peace. Students develop critically driven, self-directed research to gain an in-depth understanding of the principles and philosophies that define community dance theory and practice.

The degree is a 120-point dedicated postgraduate research programme focused heavily on independent scholarship and specialist execution.

• Self-Directed Thesis: The core focus of the qualification is the production of a 35,000-to-40,000 word research thesis (DANCE 795A&B, worth 120 points) investigating a personal, community-facing topic.

Entry Requirements & Compliance Checks

• Academic Minimums: A completed one-year postgraduate qualification following an undergraduate degree—specifically a Bachelor of Dance Studies (Honours) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Dance Studies.
• Prerequisites / Supplemental Selection: Applicants must achieve a minimum GPA/GPE of 5.0 or higher in 60 points of study above Stage III. To be considered, candidates must submit a formal research proposal demonstrating their capacity for advanced independent study in community dance.
• Professional / Compliance Steps: An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) and/or an entry selection interview may be required by the faculty to confirm admission.
• Language Requirement: A strict Academic IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no individual sub-band lower than 6.0.
