Programme Overview
This intensive 2-year Master’s provides a faster route into nursing for those who already hold a health-related degree. It is designed to produce culturally responsive, work-ready nurses capable of interprofessional practice, particularly for Māori, Pacific, and rural communities.
Upon successful completion of the coursework and clinical hours, graduates are eligible to sit the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) State Final Examination to become a Registered Nurse.
What You'll Study
The curriculum moves from foundations of professional practice to high-level clinical practicums and research.
Year One (Level 8 Foundation):
- HEAL811: Ngā Momo Mōhiotanga: Ways of Knowing (30 credits).
- MNSC812: Health Assessment, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacology (30 credits).
- MNSC821 & MNSC822: Re-establishing Hauora + Clinical Practicum 1 (60 credits total).
- Includes 450 total clinical experience hours in Year One.
Year Two (Level 8 & 9 Advanced):
- MNSC931 & MNSC832: Whānau and Community Hauora + Clinical Practicum 2 (60 credits total).
- HEAL941: Rangahau or Research as Evidence for Practice (15 credits).
- MNSC842: Clinical Practicum 3 – Toia Mai (45 credits).
- Includes 700 total clinical experience hours in Year Two leading to the State Exam.

Entry Requirements
- Academic: Relevant health science degree with a B average (65%) in year three.
- Selection: Mandatory interview (individual or group) and self-disclosure of criminal and health history.
- Clinical Requirements: Current Comprehensive First Aid Certificate, Mental Health First Aid Certificate, and evidence of immunity (Wintec Immunisation Form).
- Safety Checks: Safety checks as per the Children's Act 2014, including police vetting and professional referees.
- English: IELTS Academic 7.0 (all bands 7.0+) or equivalent.
