Programme Overview
This advanced programme is designed for practitioners in fields such as nursing, midwifery, social work, counseling, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy. It focuses on deepening professional practice, leadership, and research capabilities within an interprofessional context.
Students can choose a general pathway or specialize through specific endorsements. Note that this diploma does not lead to initial professional registration but is intended for those already qualified in their respective fields.
What You'll Study The diploma requires 120 credits. Students complete a core professional practice module and then follow a specific path based on their chosen endorsement.
Core Module (Required for all):
- HSIP807: Professional Practice in Context (30 credits)
Specialization Streams (Endorsements):
- Professional Supervision: HSIP810 & HSIP811 (Professional Supervision 1 & 2) + one elective.
- Midwifery: HSHS815 & HSHS816 (Midwifery Praxis I & II) + one elective.
- Mental Health and Addiction: HSIP817, HSIP818, & HSIP819 (Advanced Practice, Applied Theory, and Comprehensive Assessment).
- General Pathway: Core module + three electives from Group D.
Elective Options (Group D) include:
- Leadership & Management in Professional Practice.
- Evidence and Inquiry in Practice / Research for Practice.
- Palliative Care or Care of the Older Person.
- Coaching, Mentoring, and Clinical Supervision.

Entry Requirements
- Academic: A relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification. Candidates without a degree may be considered via portfolio (Ad Eundem Statum).
- Professional Experience: * Supervision Endorsement: Minimum 2 years post-qualifying experience.
- Midwifery Endorsement: Must be a Registered Midwife with a current APC and 1 year of experience.
- Selection: Mandatory professional disclosure form, two professional referees, and a possible interview.
- Safety Checks: Safety checks as per the Children's Act 2014, including police vetting and risk assessment for regulated services.
- English: IELTS Academic 7.0 (all bands 7.0 or higher) for students whose first language is not English or Māori.
