Programme Overview
The Master of Applied Professional Studies (Adult Teaching) at Toi Ohomai is a work-integrated postgraduate programme designed for working professionals who want to gain higher-level qualifications in their field of expertise. The programme supports students to broaden their knowledge and experience through reflective practice, critical evaluation, in-depth analysis of issues, and applied research.
All assessments and projects are directly linked to students' professional employment contexts, enabling immediate application of new skills on the job. Students explore adult learning theory, and critique, analyse, and find effective solutions to challenges within their specialist field. Advanced research skills are also developed, culminating in an independent research project or dissertation.
Upon successful completion, graduates receive the Master of Applied Professional Studies (Adult Teaching), along with two nested exit awards: the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Professional Studies (Adult Teaching) and the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Professional Studies (Adult Teaching).

Entry Requirements
Academic: A Bachelor's Degree or Bachelor's Degree with Honours in a cognate subject with a B average or above; OR a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma in a cognate subject with a B average or above. A current CV must be supplied. In exceptional circumstances, applicants who do not meet the standard academic requirements may be considered on the basis of academic merit and relevant experience.
Workplace Access: Applicants must have access to a relevant workplace. Those not currently employed are expected to have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience to draw on.
Selection Process: All applicants are invited to an information meeting to discuss course content and confirm suitability for their career aspirations. The Faculty Leader approves every applicant. Limitations may apply to the number of students admitted.
English: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band score lower than 6.0; or NZ Certificate in English Language Level 5 with Academic Endorsement; or a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined by NZQA.
