What You'll Study
The degree is divided sequentially into two 120-point annual parts, requiring students to maintain a B average (GPA 5.0) in Part I to transition into advanced thesis blocks.
Year 1 (Part I Coursework & Initial Practicums):
- Core Disciplinary Knowledge: Building foundational fluencies across Dance Therapy, Theory and Practice I & II (DANCE 772 and 773).
- Scientific & Analytical Foundations: Completing Awareness and Analysis in DMT (DANCE 776) covering anatomy, kinesiology, and systematic movement observation tools.
- Psychological Interventions: Enrolling in Psychology in Dance Movement Therapy (DANCE 774) focusing on developmental psychology, trauma-informed practices, and neuroscience.
- Supervised Placements: Gaining structured real-world familiarity through Therapeutic Modalities of DMT (DANCE 775).
Year 2 (Part II Advanced Practice & Capstone Thesis):
- Advanced Professional Practicum: Engaging in a double-semester clinical placement block (Practicum in Dance Movement Therapy – DANCE 777A&B) spanning at least two different host populations.
- The Master's Thesis: Completing a 90-point written research thesis (Thesis in Dance Movement Therapy – DANCE 797A&B) under direct academic supervision to build a technical specialty in the field.
