Programme Overview
The Master of Professional Accounting (MProfAcctg) is a practice-focused coursework programme designed to give graduates the core skills and knowledge across accounting, finance, commercial law, and taxation. It serves as a conversion degree-welcoming graduates from both business and non-business disciplines who want to build a career in professional accountancy without having completed an undergraduate accounting major.
Note: The MProfAcctg is formally recognized by major international accounting bodies, including Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), CPA Australia, ACCA, and CIMA.
Programme Pathways & Core Formats
The programme is delivered as a 180-point taught framework divided into clear progression phases across five quarters:
- Core Business & Accounting Foundations: Establishes key concepts in business management, financial reporting, business analytics, and information systems.
- Advanced Specialisation & Capstone: Covers complex legal and taxation frameworks, corporate finance, management control systems, and an industry-linked capstone project.
What You'll Study
The 180-point degree requirements combine foundational business subjects, advanced accounting modules, and professional development:
- Compulsory Business & Accounting Core:
- Managing People and Organisations / Economics and Business Analytics
- Financial Accounting and Control / Financial Reporting and Accounting
- Accounting Information Systems (BUSACT 702)
- Commercial and Corporate Law (BUSACT 701)
- Taxation / Auditing and Assurance / Strategic Management Control
- Professional Development & Capstone Component:
- Dedicated career and professional skill-building modules integrated into the coursework schedule.
- MProfAcctg Capstone Project (BUSACT 705): An applied project where students evaluate real-world business cases, performance metrics, risk, and forecasting to present strategic recommendations.
Why Choose This Programme?
- Professional Accreditation: Fulfills academic entry requirements to pursue membership with CAANZ, CPA Australia, ACCA, and CIMA.
- No Accounting Background Needed: Open to non-business and business graduates alike looking to pivot into professional financial roles.
- Real-World Capstone: Features an active consultancy case project that translates academic theories directly into applied corporate problem-solving.
