Programme Overview
The Master of Professional Supervision (MProfSup) is designed for working practitioners across health, counselling, education, and social services. The curriculum establishes professional supervision as a core cornerstone of critical reflection, lifelong learning, and transformative practice. Students learn to critically analyze and integrate theoretical perspectives, contemporary literature, policy, and practice to enhance their clinical leadership, professional confidence, and mentoring capabilities within their specific organizational contexts.
Programme Pathways
The program is delivered as a 180-point postgraduate framework available under two distinct paths to balance advanced coursework with structured inquiry:
- The Taught Path: Combines 120 points of core advanced supervision coursework and elective modules with a smaller, 60-point independent research dissertation.
- The Research Path: Pairs 90 points of core and elective seminars with a major, 90-point supervised master's research thesis.
What You'll Study
The curriculum requires the completion of 180 postgraduate points structured around dedicated professional supervision schedules:
- Compulsory Core Courses (60 points): All students complete two foundational modules:
- The Practice of Professional Supervision (PROFSUPV 700) – 30 points
- Advanced Approaches in Professional Supervision (PROFSUPV 701) – 30 points
- Elective Options (30 to 60 points): Selective modules chosen from specialized practice topics:
- Stress and Trauma in Health and Human Services (PROFSUPV 710)
- Critical Approaches in Reflective Supervision (PROFSUPV 712)
- Managing and Developing People in Human Services (PROFSUPV 714)
- Practice Teaching and Learning (PROFSUPV 715)
- Research Component (60 or 90 points): Execution of either a 60-point Research Dissertation or a 90-point Master's Thesis under individual academic supervision.
